Selected Accomplishments:

Managerial:

  • Developed administrative and patient care processes in coordination with 2 other administrative directors to facilitate efficient, patient and physician friendly processes maximizing the use of information technology.

  • Responsible for the evaluation and acquisition of all software and hardware, including capital budget items totaling approximately $6 million dollars over the past four years.

  • Responsible for controlling and monitoring a departmental operational budget of over $1 million each year and creation of an in-house Information Systems department where none had previously existed.

  • Interviewed, selected, trained, scheduled, supervised, and evaluated a direct reporting staff of 10 FTEs plus indirect reporting of 12 FTEs through the administration of a $1 million outsourcing contract.

  • Manages overall operation of the Information Systems department, including all personnel matters, system security, data confidentiality, application development and strategic direction.

  • Reengineered work flows to reduce clerical personnel and increase professional staff within the same allocation of labor dollars.

  • Developed written policies and procedures to maximize personnel and streamline functions.

Project Management:

  • Directed and managed the implementation of a full scope of MEDITECH Client/Server products in new facility as well as other specialty cardiovascular information products. All products were implemented in a 3-4 month time frame.

  • Coordinated installation and evaluation of a $2.5 million HBOC wireless clinical documentation, radiology and enterprise wide patient scheduling systems along with the replacement of the campus’ cabling infrastructure from an Arcnet system to a fiber optic based TCP/IP system.

  • Evaluated, selected and coordinated the installation of a HUBLink interface engine to replace point-to-point interfaces.

  • Proposed, planned, budgeted and coordinated the installation of the Patient Care Technologies remote access network of 20 handheld terminals and a NOVELL personal computer network of 5 nodes, along with providing for integration of data with the main hospital information system through the development of interfaces.

  • Proposed, planned, budgeted and coordinated the installation of a NOVELL campus-wide personal computer network of over 60 nodes and ten applications from a previously standalone PC environment.

  • Coordinated the connection of 21 physician offices and an off-site clinic with on-line access all clinical and appropriate financial data in the MEDITECH hospital information system via a modem system with dial back security and multiplexors.

  • Coordinated and planned the installation of all the MEDITECH financial applications, as well as the Radiology and Appointment Scheduling systems.

  • Assisted and supervised the implementation of the MEDITECH clinical and administrative applications

Technical Skills:

  • Provided for replacement of outdated hardware with 2 DEC Alpha machines, increasing disk storage by 332%, decreasing electrical consumption, while providing for increased reliability of data availability.

  •  Increased disk space and CPU capabilities by 360% and device potential by 30% over three years through the installation of an additional Data General AViiON 5200+ CPU, 4 additional RA82 drives on the DEC VAX 3600 CPUs and 26 additional DECServer 200 terminal servers.

  • Upgraded NOVELL personal computer system from a departmental system to a campus-wide network.

  • Maintained ten personal computer applications, three servers, and 56 personal computers with appropriate upgrades and provided for installation of a PC based electronic mail system.

  • Assisted in selection of PBX replacement to include voice mail, T-1 call routing, and automated attendants and the installation and application of telemedicine and videoconferencing equipment.

  • Designed, composed and organized custom reports as requested utilizing the MEDITECH Data Search and NPR Report Writer modules.

  • Designed and created the original World Wide Web Home Page for the John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University using HTML language.
